bike to work sonoma.

This Thursday, May 10th is the 18th annual Bike to Work Day in the San Francisco Bay Area. This event is even more topical because Santa Rosa hosts the overall start of the 2012 Amgen Tour of California this weekend.

Bike stores, local retail shops, coalitions, restaurants, caterers and volunteers are all coming together to set upEnergizer Stations throughout Sonoma County for those who cycle to work.

Anyone on a bike can visit one of these locations between 6am to 9am for coffee, snacks, good cheer, and collectible canvas giveway bags. For more info on where to find a morning Energizer Station or afternoon/night time celebration, visit bikesonoma.org!

Oh, and if you don’t work that day (or work from home like I do), you can still pedal anywhere you need to go!

The Leadership Institute for Ecology & the Economy and theTrek Store Santa Rosa at will be in downtown Santa Rosa’s Railroad Square all day and with the help of Peloton Catering, there will surly be some delicious food. (update, I hear there will be breakfast burritos).

Sheana Davis at The Epicurean Connection in downtown Sonoma is celebrating with a full day of events, including morning hydration for those riding their bikes in the town of Sonoma square and a special guest beertender (Dean Biersch) pouring that afternoon!

Are you planning on riding your bike to work tomorrow? Take a picture at any one of Sonoma County’s energizer stations and tweet me (@sharayray) a picture!

Bike to Work Sonoma

best beer in sonoma county.

Battle of the Brews has been a celebrated Sonoma County beer tradition for  years.  For all those who know that Sonoma County isn’t just known for our amazing wines…. We are also the home of some of the BEST beer in the United States and the battle of the brews showcases many of the finest ales that we have to offer – this is THE event to attend.

New to the event this year, is the exclusive new opportunity to taste one-of-a-kind craft brews and artisan chef creations at the First Annual Craft Cup and ‘Wich Hunt sandwich competition.

The Craft Cup and ‘Wich Hunt are what turns this beer fest into a true culinary event for craft beer lovers.

Dozens of the best breweries from the west coast will compete for the title of Best Craft Brew and visitors will get to taste unique brews that are not always found on the shelf of grocery stores. BiteClub Eat’s Heather Irwin will also be hosting a bold, crazy, and creative chef competition… All about SANDWICHES and beer pairings… YUM! I just hope I can have at least one vegetarian sandwich.

Some of the North Bay’s best chefs will be featured during this ‘Wich Hunt in a head-to-head competition to create some of the biggest flavors and wildest takes on sandwiches and beer pairings.

Guests can attend both the Craft Cup and ‘Wich Hunt which start at 2pm on Saturday, or decide to simply attend the Main Event  (beer, live music, and food), which starts at 5pm. My recommendation - buy tickets the first and enjoy the best sandwiches and craft beer that the North Bay has to offer!

Buy tickets online at http://www.battleofthebrews.com/!

Remember that the Battle of The Brews, put on by the boys at Santa Rosa’s Active 20-30 Club isn’t JUST a beer fest – All proceeds from Battle of the Brews support various local children’s charities.

Saturday, January 7th: Beers with friends at Stumptown Brewery on the Russian River. This brewery is the home of the Russian River Beer Revival beerfest and BBQ cookoff every August and one of my favorite places to bring newbies (aka tourists) to Sonoma County. The drive through the Russian River Valley vineyards is gorgeous and this biker bar/adventure in Gurneville is one that doesn’t happen every day.
