#30daysofgood – the GOOD challenge

I just uploaded a new app on my iPhone called Pulse. In addition to it being a great source for my morning news with all of the content I love (aka Mashable, ReadWriteWeb, TechCrunch, MSNBC) the featured news feed was GOOD magazine. This is a website I always love reading and somehow always forgot to save onto my iGoogle, etc (until now).

Thanks the Pulse, this website is second on my list. And just in time also because they are 16 days into something that inspires me - The 30 Days of Good Challenge - Get Healthy.

30 Days of Good Challenge - Get Healthy

Today’s (October 16th, 2011) mini-challenge was to make sure you drink at least eight glasses of water. This is a no brainier and something I have always done since being in the workforce (vs. in class at school). It is a good reminder to be reminded of on a Sunday though. Most don’t have the same water cooler at home like they do at work. Many end up forgetting to drink their eight glasses (even more important during football season IMHO).

I will be picking up from the middle of this month and making sure to challenge myself even further to get healthy. Since the beginning of September  I have been cutting way back on my wine/beer intake, focusing on healthy activities like walking around Spring Lake, starting and finishing LiveFit Bootcamp and now I have been “enjoying” bi-weekly Bikram Yoga classes at the studio in Santa Rosa.

I feel amazing so I can only think that these mini-challenges will serve as a nudge for even more healthy activities.

Make sure to take a look at all of GOOD magazine’s 30 days of good challenge articles and join in with me!

will be remembering an icon in technology this evening.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels? We make tools for these kinds of people. While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

RIP Steve Jobs. My life wouldn’t be the same without Pixar… or my iPhone.

My Twenties: Hurt.

In ninth grade I was fully immersed into the era of grunge and goth rock. All of my posters and pictures on my walls were of Kurt Cobain (right after he died*), Pearl Jam, Jordan Catalano (if you don’t know who he is, you fail at being a teenage girl in the 90′s) and Nine Inch Nails.

*Note: After reading this it sounds much creepier than I intended. I meant I had pictures of Kurt while he was alive, not dead pictures of him on my wall… Just happened to fall in love with Nirvana right before he died.

Two years ago I finally got to see Nine Inch Nails in concert and it was truly everything I had wanted. When Trent sang “Hurt” I did cry. It was beautiful.

That is exactly how I felt when listening to

The Downward Spiral.

brands that post outside of business hours had 20% higher engagement rates

Social Media Stats

I just wanted to share some great statistics on Facebook engagement (which also works for Twitter) via mashable.com.  I have been telling brands that you have to engage with people (aka connect) outside of work hours AND especially on weekends (for wineries and restaurants).  At least answer questions that people are asking YOU personally during these peak hours.

My Twenties: Fiona Apple

One of the first concerts I went to without any adults was Fiona Apple at the Luther Burbank Center (now called the Wells Fargo Center) in Santa Rosa. It was a few months after her first album Tidal came out and she may not have had that many songs, but it was an amazing show.

The songs Shadow Boxer, Criminal and Sleep to Dream were a prefect combination of sad, sultry and inspiring. Just what my 16 year self loved.

Tidal is one of my 30 favorite CD’s of the last 30 years.  Enjoy.
