cult wines.

Still to this day I am a wine label whore.   I have been known to buy or like wines with funny names like Fat Bastard, Ménage à trois or Poizin from Armida Winery in Dry Creek Valley.  And usually these wines are more about the bottle vs. what is actually inside (though, the Poizin is pretty good as a house wine).  Today, I enjoyed my second bottle of Papillon, a cult-esque Napa Valley Cab Blend (65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 4% Petite Verdot, 2% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc).

I was introduced briefly to Dave Phinny, the winemaker and owner of Orin Swift at the Acme Fine Wines event a few months ago in St. Helena (see DrXeno’s post on the rest of the Napa Wine Event here).   I was able to try this label as well as his other infamous bottle, The Prisoner.

But today, I was able to enjoy this wine as it is meant to be….  An amazing bottle that paired perfectly with a good meal.  This meal happened to be homemade pizzas and a caprese salad and sadly my iphone was dead so no pictures of the amazing meal were taken.

This is a great bottle, truly worthy of cult status and if you ever see a bottle of this wine, do yourself a favor and buy it right away!
